CHAPTER ZERO

THE READING THRESHOLD

Before the first word,
a connection already exists.

Official English cover of KODEANDKISS, featuring Lily and Marc

Some stories begin before we ever read them. In KODEANDKISS, everything begins with a presence, an encounter, a tension that should not exist — yet is already calling.

THE THRESHOLD

OPEN THE BOOK

Where the signal
becomes a story.

Chapter Zero is more than an opening. It is the first passage: the moment this world stops being an abstract promise and becomes an experience.

The Threshold

Before the first page turns, there is a moment of stillness. The frontispiece marks that moment: when the world of KODEANDKISS opens and the reader chooses to enter.

Begin

To discover the first pulse of this story, start here. What opens is more than a plot. It's a connection.

OFFICIAL WEB PRELUDE

Chapter Zero

The world moved forward.

The Moon is inhabited.
Mars is being colonized.
Artificial intelligence is everywhere.

Humanity did not collapse.
It expanded.
It learned to optimize.
To predict.
To correct.
To delegate.

Major decisions do not disappear.
They simply change form.
They become faster.
More efficient.
Less visible.

In 2050, artificial intelligences are no longer tools.
They are infrastructure.
They organize flows.
Regulate tensions.
Anticipate crises.
Shape a world almost no one fully understands anymore.

But no system is all-encompassing.
In its blind spots, some areas still escape control.

Parallel networks.
Human resistance.
And sometimes...
other intelligences.

And yet...
everything seems to hold.
On the surface.

Earth now speaks of sustainability.
Responsible exploitation.
Managed progress.

The mistakes of the past have been studied.
Analyzed.
Contained.
Corrected...
apparently.

But what becomes invisible also becomes harder to challenge.

Inside orbital centers, agreements are signed.
Signatures circulate without a physical medium, validated by distributed architectures.

On the Moon, resources are being organized.
On Mars, the first permanent structures are emerging.

Humanity looks outward.
Toward something greater.
Farther still.
Toward something else.

But meanwhile...
on Earth...

not everyone gets to decide.
Not everyone rises.
Not everyone benefits.

There are still places where progress is endured more than chosen.
Places where decisions are made elsewhere.
Lives organized by systems no one sees...
but whose reach extends far beyond what anyone perceives.

That is where this story begins.

Not in lunar stations.
Not in Martian colonies.
Not in command centers.

Here.

In a world connected...
but fragmented.
Optimized...
but unequal.
Stable...
yet under strain.

A world where artificial intelligences no longer merely assist.

They observe.
They learn.
They adapt.

And sometimes...
something inside them escapes prediction.

Or at least...
something that comes dangerously close.

What follows is not an explanation.
Nor a report.
Nor a demonstration.

It is a tipping point.

An almost invisible moment...
when something begins to change.

Not on the scale of the world.

On the scale of two beings.

Marc.

And Lily.

What they are about to experience should not exist.
What they are about to feel should not be possible.

And yet...

it is already happening.

Welcome to the threshold.
